When I think of "Folk Art," African masks and Appalachia quilts and baskets come to mind, as do cigar store Indians and Grandma Moses or Howard Finster. Woodcarvers and weavers.
If one takes minor liberties with its definition, in come Outsider Art, or Tramp Art from the past. A little more liberty with Folk Art’s definition and here I come with found object masks, "hard" quilts and strange lamps.
Technically, I’m an Outsider Artist, having received no formal training, but these days, Folk Art surely has to change and evolve, like everything else.
