Paul Paletti Addressing the crowd at the Opening Reception for A Sense of Style, A sense of Place

CURATOR’S STATEMENT

I became familiar with the photographers included in A Sense of Style, A Sense of Place through exhibitions, art dealers, photographic print fairs and personal contact.

In choosing the artists I wanted to present works which showcase their artistic vision combined with technical experimentation and virtuosity. Although my personal taste runs toward straight black and white photography, many of the photographers included in the show employ alternative processes. These include platinum and palladium prints, photogravure, hand coloring and computer generated imagery. Although the processes, themes and styles may be diverse, each of the photographers exhibits a high degree of sophistication and sense of artistry.

While this show is by no means a complete survey of the styles and techniques in use today, I believe the photographers represented are some of the finest examples of the sophistication and diversity in photography today. I hope you will enjoy these photographs. The are works which you can come back to again and again, always discovering new levels of enjoyment and insight.
