Ann and John Miller of
Louisville have been collecting art, and in particular Folk Art, for
more than twenty years.
Through careful research
and numerous visits to artist’s studios, auctions and galleries
throughout the South, they have created one of the most important
and wide-ranging collections in the region – yet it is little known
outside the folk art community.
This will be an
opportunity to view works by most of the major Southern folk artists
from the past twenty five years.

People love to
surround themselves with flowers – both indoors and out.
We have asked
artists from across the country to create vases, bowls, platters and
pots in which to display cut and dried flowers, bulbs and plants of
all descriptions.
The only
limitation is that the vessels be as splendid without flowers as
with!. |

Bottled
Spirits

Opening Reception: Tuesday
May 10, 2005 5 – 7:30

Kentucky is famous, among other
things, for its bourbon distillers and its craft artists. In 1997,
we combined the two into an exhibition called Bourbon Bottles.
Almost every year since then we have repeated the popular show,
and we changed its name to Bottled Spirits. This year we
will invite artists from across the U.S. and possibly beyond to
participate alongside our Kentucky craftspeople. Along the lines
of a "teapot" show, we are inviting artists to create bottles or
vessels in which to store and from which to dispense spirits, wine
or other liquid refreshment. Works can be purely decorative, or
they may be functional. Works included will reflect each artist’s
unique creative personality and style and approach to this
subject.

Planning for
one’s eventual demise is not something that many of us consider –
often until it is too late.
This exhibition
will feature work by artists who have prepared for the inevitable by creating
caskets, memorial statuary, crematory urns and other objects
associated with funeral and burial rituals.
