Glass artists, whether making functional or nonfunctional works, are part of a nearly 5,000 year old tradition of making glass.

Studio glass artists are part of a movement which dates back to workshops given by Harvey Littleton, Dominick Labino with Tom McGlauchlin and other participants in workshops presented at the Toledo Museum of Art in 1962.

The artists in this exhibition represent only a small percentage of artists working in glass. The show is meant to be a snapshot view of contemporary studio glass practice. The artists showcased were chosen because they have reached a level of maturity in their work, attained the mastery of certain techniques and a present a clear resolution of aesthetic ideas.

Some are artists who show regularly in the country's premier glass galleries and exhibitions, while others are recently embarked on exciting careers. Many are teachers while others are "artists, artists" recognized more by their peers than by the public at large.

Studio Glass: Established and Emerging Visions will be a vehicle by which local and regional collectors can supplement existing collections of glass or take the first step into creating a collection from the ground up.
